Simon Wiesenthal Center: Murder of Arab Teen an Abomination, Terror Act and Desecration of Jewish Values

July 6, 2014

The arrest of multiple Jewish suspects in an apparent revenge abduction of an Arab teenager, in wake of the kidnapping and murder of three Israeli teens, “Is nothing less than an abomination and a terror act that is a desecration of Jewish values,” said Rabbis Marvin Hier and Abraham Cooper, founder and dean and associate dean of the Simon Wiesenthal Center, in a statement released from the international headquarters of the Jewish Human rights group in Los Angeles.

“There is no justification for this horrific crime. We commend Israeli authorities for finding the perpetrators," they added.

“But this is also the time to point to the fundamental differences between the two crimes. The abduction of the Arab teenager was carried out by extremists, acting on their own, who stand condemned by every sector of Israel's democratic society. The kidnapping and murders of three Israeli teens, who have not yet been captured, was carried out by members of a terrorist group (Hamas) that is part of a Palestinian government,” Hier and Cooper said.

“That is why the Simon Wiesenthal Center reiterates its call to President Obama to make clear to PA President Mahmoud Abbas that he either drops Hamas from the unity government or loses American financial support."

"Which civilized country would ever accept the inclusion of active terrorists in a so-called unity government? It is a dangerous double standard that demands of Israel to accept something that neither the United States nor any member of the UN Security Council, nor any member state of the European Union would ever accept for themselves,” Rabbis Hier and Cooper concluded.
