Simon Wiesenthal Center Reaction to HAMAS/PA Deal

April 24, 2014

Following the agreement by Palestinian Authority head Mahmoud Abbas and Hamas to form a unity government, Rabbi Marvin Hier, Founder and Dean of the Simon Wiesenthal Center and Rabbi Abraham Cooper, the Center's Associate Dean, said today,

"Hamas is a terrorist organization that in word and deed has devoted itself to the destruction of the Jewish State of Israel, the targeted mass murder of Jews, and the inculcating of hatred into the minds of young Palestinians. Hamas' founding charter invokes the long debunked infamous Protocols of Zion. It has never changed its declared goal of murder and mayhem. Indeed just days ago, a top Hamas official reiterated his group's commitment to kidnap more Israeli soldiers.

"As of today Israel is confronted with a new coalition comprising of Hamas and the Palestinian Authority. The first is committed to Israel's physical destruction, the latter, the Palestinian Authority serially denies the Jewish people's 3,500 year old relationship to its land.

President Abbas has the right to pursue his course and Israel has the right to defend herself. It is time for the world's democracies and NGOs to re-evaluate their funding of any entity that includes Hamas."
