SWC to San Francisco State University: Take Action After Violent Posts by Palestinian Student Group Leader - Expel Student & Make Investigatory Findings Public

December 12, 2013

The President of San Francisco State University’s General Union of Palestine Students (GUPS), a university-sanctioned student group, allegedly posted a picture of himself holding a knife with the caption, “I seriously can not get over how much I love this blade. It is the sharpest thing I own and cuts through everything like butter and just holding it makes me want to stab an Israeli soldier.”

The same student is believed to have also written of an Israeli female soldier: “Anyone who thinks there can be peace with animals like this is absolutely delusional, and the only “peace” I’m interested in is the head of this f***ing scum on a plate, as well as the heads of all others like her, and all others who support the IDF.” Also, at a recent GUPS event, a stencil was used to make posters stating, “My heroes have always killed colonizers.”

After the SWC protested to SFSU President Les Wong, he responded, “While one may want to step in and sanction a student … our obligation is to allow the lawful airing of views,” adding, “I ask that you give our [student conduct review] processes the time needed to be thorough…”

“This is a direct threat that in our view definitely crosses the line,” said SWC officials. “We therefore demand the expulsion of the student and a full investigation into GUPS including a public release of all findings. It cannot be that it is ‘open season’ for attacking Israelis, Jews, and supporters of Israel.”
